Celebrity-owned Samuel’s Sweet Shop in Upstate NY takes you back to your childhood (photos)
Rhinebeck, N.Y. — If you’re on the hunt for a sweet treat in the Hudson Valley, look no further than Rhinebeck, New York, where its very own Samuel’s Sweet Shop was named one of the best candy shops in the entire United States. This delightful confectionery wonderland, nestled right in the heart of quaint Rhinebeck, has been a beloved local gem for years.
Step into Samuel’s Sweet Shop, and you’ll immediately understand why it’s a cut above the rest. The air is filled with the enchanting scent of freshly made coffee, handcrafted chocolates and baked goods.
The shop itself is a visual feast. Wooden shelves are lined with bags, baskets and jars of candy — from beloved classics like Sour Patch Kids and Red Vines to rare and hard-to-find treasures.
Earlier this year, Samuel’s came in at No. 5 on USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice awards for best candy store of 2023.
Samuel’s Sweet Shop continues to be a downtown Rhinebeck delight, thanks to new ownership by actors and Hudson Valley residents Paul Rudd, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, their wives and a third couple. They had been longtime customers before the store owner’s passing.
Keeping all of its charm, Samuel’s is currently run by John Traver, who had started his career at Samuel’s many years ago and is now a partner in the business.
Samuel’s Sweet Shop is open seven days a week, open 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and Sundays, and 7:30 a.m to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
