MBTA wants your opinion on color scheme of new Green Line trains

one thing on the topic of cars if I can, if you’ll permit me *** bit of *** diversion from the Orange Line work. Just to note um this week, the N. B. T. ***. Board of directors awarded an $811 million contract for over 100 new Green line supercars. And I really want to note this, this is *** real, I think *** real special moment for the authority. And for our riders on the green line, these new cars are gonna *** lot are gonna bring tremendous benefits to riders in the form of greater safety, enhanced accessibility capacity and and um and maintenance. They’re gonna be 40 ft longer than the current Green line vehicles with wider door openings that allow greater accessibility and allow additional capacity for our customers. They’re gonna have 100% low floor boarding and they’re really gonna be *** step change for us in terms of the system’s accessibility Right now, these vehicles will be entering the procurement phase with the approval of the board uh, that happened on Wednesday design phase is gonna beginning is going to begin this fall and uh and it will be *** number, it will be *** few years before we get our first pilot car. But this is really the beginning of an entirely new phase for the Green line and one that I did want to highlight in my remarks today, these new cars represent really *** step change in terms of technology. Um they’re the newest types of cars. They have *** significant upgrade and accessibility will be, will be using this contract to replace all of the existing type seven and eight cars, some of which date back to 1986 and 1987, will be replacing all of those cars over the next decade with the new Type 10 cars. So, really *** great moment for the N b T ***. And it also holds out the potential we do intend to compete for additional federal funding for the Green line. This allows us to compete for that funding, so really an important moment for the M b E t *** on Wednesday.
