Driving to SFO? These Parts of Highway 101 Will Be Closed

Several roads leading to and from the San Francisco International Airport will be closed Monday night, with the first closure starting at 9 p.m., officials said.

According to an official announcement, the following stretches of Highway 101 will be shut down Monday night, although the highway itself will remain open:

9 p.m. – Northbound Highway 101 offramp to North Access Road.
10 p.m – Northbound Highway 101 on-ramp from westbound Millbrae Avenue.
11 p.m. – Northbound Highway 101 offramp to SFO & southbound Highway 101 offramp to Produce Avenue /Airport Boulevard.
11 p.m. – Two-lane closures at southbound Highway 101 Mainline from Broadway to Oyster Point
12 AM – Northbound Highway 101 SFO connector offramp to San Bruno & northbound Highway 101 offramp to eastbound Interstate 380.

SFO went on to say in the post that more road closures could happen tonight if needed.

Caltrans said in an email that drivers who are affected by the closures should use the Caltrans’ QuickMap app for the latest information on current road closures, but did not provide further information about recommended alternate routes or share a schedule of any further planned closures.

The closures are being done so Caltrans can repave several onramps and offramps as part of the U.S. 101 Express Lanes project in San Mateo County. It aims to reduce traffic congestion by creating 22 miles of express lanes in both directions on U.S. 101 from the San Mateo County-Santa Clara County line to I-380 in South San Francisco.

The majority of work will be completed by Thanksgiving with intermittent closures till the end of the year, according to Caltrans.

San Francisco International Airport has yet to respond to further comment.
