An Orange County woman is suing Disney after she said she fell and hurt herself during a ride evacuation at Test Track this year.
Karen Imbrogno filed the lawsuit against the theme park company this week and is seeking more than $50,000.
According to her complaint, Imbrogno was at EPCOT on St. Patrick’s Day and riding Test Track when the attraction broke down.
“The ride malfunctioned and shut down in the middle,” the lawsuit said.
On the intercom, a Disney Cast Member told riders they had to exit the attraction. A second Disney Cast Member led Imbrogno away. As Imbrogno followed, “ she fell into a three foot dropoff,” the lawsuit said.
Imbrogno had a “permanent injury,” the lawsuit said without detailing exactly how she got hurt.
It’s at least the second lawsuit recently involving a Disney World visitor who claimed to be hurt when a ride had problems.
Earlier in September, WDWNT reported a child from New Jersey suffered whiplash when Peter Pan’s Flight unexpectedly stopped and then violently restarted again at the Magic Kingdom. The child’s father is now suing Disney.
WDWNT reached out to Morgan & Morgan, which is handling both the Peter Pan and the Test Track lawsuits, but the law firm declined to comment for this story or provide any additional details.
Test Track is a longtime attraction at EPCOT, but it’s made news recently after Disney promised to reimagine the ride with World of Motion as the inspiration. That was one of the announcements that came out of the D23 Fan Expo in Orlando this summer.
The attraction opened alongside EPCOT as World of Motion on October 1, 1982. General Motors sponsored the ride and continues to, albeit under the Chevrolet brand. They are the only remaining original sponsor at EPCOT.
Imagineers plan to bring “that spirit of optimism” from World of Motion “to the next iteration” of Test Track. In its current form, guests create their own virtual concept car in the Chevrolet Design Center before buckling up in a 6-passenger “SIM Car” to take it for a spin on the track.
The last overhaul was back in 2012, and the timing would indicate that the latest reimagining is the result of Chevrolet renewing their sponsorship contract.
