A new light show debuted on the exterior of Spaceship Earth on September 22 to coincide with the commencement of Disney100 celebrations at EPCOT. The new show celebrates a century’s worth of memories with breathtaking visuals, vibrant colors, and a special rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star” in celebration of the centennial anniversary of The Walt Disney Company.
New Spaceship Earth Disney100 Spectacle of Light
The show starts with just a select few points of light illuminated in a bright white tone. An orchestral rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star” plays in the background; the song was produced for the 1939 film “Pinocchio,” but has since evolved into a sort of company anthem for Disney.
A point of light transforms into a shooting star and begins to move around the exterior of the geosphere, leaving a track of light behind it.
After a brief moment in which bands of white light encircle Spaceship Earth, the shooting star again starts to move. It changes into a bright purple hue and traces the outline of Mickey’s head.
The singular Mickey head soon disappears and is replaced by several flashing points of light. Purple light then engulfs the entire icon, the negative space in the light forming numerous Mickey heads.
The structure goes dim for a brief moment after the Mickey heads complete their rotation. The visual silence is broken by explosions of vivid colors; shades of orange, green, and purple appear around Spaceship Earth in firework-like patterns.
The colors combine and rotate around the park icon as the rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star” hits its cohesive peak.
The purple shooting star makes one final rotation after the show’s climax. The structure is then divided into sections of purple, green, yellow, and blue light; the colors combine into a solid orange tone that engulfs the entire structure before fading out, ending the show.

Disney100 Celebrations at EPCOT
Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder (Disney100 for short) is being celebrated at Disney Parks and Resorts around the world. The celebration started at EPCOT on September 22 and brought with it a number of additions to the park.
A platinum Mickey Mouse statue debuted at the front of the bridge to the World Showcase neighborhood on Friday. It sits in front of the previously present Disney100 icon and is a replica of the statue that was introduced on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland in January.
Mickey has also been joined by Minnie Mouse for his normal meet and greet at the Magic Eye Theater at the Imagination! Pavilion, and the two now don their platinum Disney100 costumes. Their meet and greet area is also celebratory in nature, with references to classic Mickey Mouse cartoons like”Steamboat Willie” and “The Band Concert” throughout the set aiding in the nostalgic feel of the Disney100 celebration.
A Disney100 mural featuring several Disney easter eggs debuted at the park to coincide with the start of the anniversary festivities; the expansive mural stretches across a wall in World Celebration and contains depictions of both widely known characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy, and esoteric ones like Horace Horsecollar, Ortensia, and the characters from Kitchen Kabaret, an opening-day show at EPCOT.
Several new Global Marketplaces joined the feast at the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival as Disney100 celebrations launched, with Char & Chop, Wine & Wedge, and Bubbles & Brine each opening on September 22.
