‘Police incident’ shuts down I-75 near State Route 47

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — I-75 near State Route 47 has reopened following a temporary closure of the north and southbound lanes.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, troopers attempted to stop a blue 2005 Toyota Camry for swerving outside of the marked lanes. The driver reportedly did not stop and a pursuit began.

The pursuit continued into Shelby County, where the Sidney Police Department successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle came to a stop near milepost 93.

OSHP reported that after a 43-minute standoff, the driver, 57-year-old Jeffrey Hays of Bloomington, Ind., was taken into custody.

Hays is currently being held in the Miami County Jail and is facing charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Obstructing Official Business and Driving in Marked Lanes.

During the incident, the north and southbound lanes of I-75 were shutdown. They have since reopened.
