Fire breaks out at Block Island hotel
NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WPRI) — Crews are responding to a fire on Block Island that broke out late Friday night at the Harborside Inn on Water Street.
Needing more assistance, additional firefighters were called in to help.
The U.S. Coast Guard says they began transporting firefighters from Point Judith to Block Island at around midnight.
As of Saturday morning, there were at least 40 firefighters on scene from various departments.
Additional fire engines and ladder trucks were sent over via ferries, at a time of day when ferries do not typically run.
