Silver Dollar City announced a new $30 million indoor roller coaster that will debut in the spring and was inspired by a park classic.The roller coaster, called Fire in the Hole, is expected to open in the spring of 2024 and will be located in the Branson, Missouri, park’s Fire District.Fire in the Hole will have a powered incline and gravity descent, three drops and a quick splash landing, according to a news release. It also will be nearly 1/3 of a mile long and will be housed in a five-story building, making it ridable in any weather.”Signifying our biggest investment in a single attraction, Fire in the Hole continues Silver Dollar City’s strategic, multi-phased growth plan offering families opportunities to play and stay together in the heart of the Ozarks,” Brad Thomas, president of the Silver Dollar City Company, said in the news release. “Spurring the creation of The Fire District, the custom-designed Fire in the Hole makes history as the Heartland’s largest indoor coaster. As the District’s anchor attraction, it will be a favorite rite of passage for families where one generation introduces the next generation to this adventure and where the heroes of today spark the heroes of tomorrow.”The story behind Fire in the Hole is a fictional account of a real night in Ozark Mountain history when the mining town of Marmaros was burned to the ground by the notorious vigilantes, the Baldknobbers, according to the news release. The coaster depicts the day when Silver Dollar City citizens are pressed into service to save their town.The new roller coaster is inspired by the original Fire in the Hole attraction, which was first built at Silver Dollar City in 1972.
