McDonald’s is collaborating with the Disney+ “Loki” series through a newly-announced special sauce coming to restaurants to promote season 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
‘Loki’ Special Sauce
As IGN reports, McDonald’s is drawing inspiration from Tom Hiddleston’s Asgardian trickster to dish out a special sauce in the coming weeks. In a tweet from the fast food giant below, there’s a brief video with “no spoilers” written as the post.
The video features clips of movies and TV shows that have referenced the company over the years, including “Seinfeld” and “Coming to America,” along with an extremely brief, sneaky shot of Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie working at the burger chain in season 2 of “Loki.”
It is currently uncertain if the collaboration will involve either the rebranding of a preexisting sauce or an entirely new idea. Beyond general condiments such as ketchup and mustard, McDonald’s offers the following dips:
- Tangy Barbecue
- Spicy Buffalo
- Creamy Ranch
- Honey Mustard
- Sweet ‘N Sour
In 2022, the legendary Szechuan Sauce made a brief return. It was originally offered in 1998 to promote the animated Disney film “Mulan.” A 2017 episode of “Rick & Morty” mentioning the sauce in dramatic and hilarious fashion also boosted its popularity — Szechuan made a return that year as well, and ran out entirely in less than one day.
‘Loki’ Season 2
The aforementioned TV series is based on the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe character portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. Season 1 debuted on June 9, 2021 and consisted of six episodes. A recently-released trailer for its second season introduces Ke Huy Quan’s character OB and sees the return of several stars, including Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius.
This show takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Be wary of spoilers here: after the “Avengers” version of Loki steals the Tesseract in “Avengers: Endgame,” that variant is brought to the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The organization exists outside of time and space, monitoring it to ensure everything is in their vision of order.
A Disney+ promotional video also showed a peek at season 2, while additional leaked set photos revealed a new costume for Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie. In addition to the returning actors and Ke Huy Quan, Wunmi Mosaku (Hunter B-15) will be joining the cast.
Exclusive footage was shown at the D23 Expo last year, but remains unavailable online. According to Empire Magazine, the footage featured Loki back at the TVA being pulled through time as he tries to warn everyone about Kang. Mobius and Hunter B-15 still don’t recognize him. It will connect to Marvel’s ongoing multiverse saga.
